Sydney Jewish Museum
I went to the Sydney Jewish Museum the other day. I always try to learn about the Jewish community of a country or city when traveling. It's led me to some wonderful discoveries, like the time Amanda and I had an hour before our train in Munich and stumbled upon the grand opening of a new Jewish museum. Or when I celebrated Israel Independence Day in the Jewish quarter in Rome - thousands of Jews dancing and swinging the Israeli flag. So far I have had a few magical Shabbat evenings in Australia (more on that later), and am looking forward to spending Purim in New Zealand and Passover in Melbourne!
But back to the Jewish museum. It was somewhat disappointing; perhaps I was expecting more on the history of Jews in Sydney than a overview of ancient Judaism, holidays, and the Holocaust. I did really like this diagram though. Only 40 Jews on the West Coast. Can't imagine it being easy to find a nice, Jewish husband out there.
