Tamaki Maori Village

The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand, and Rotorua, along with several other towns on the North Island, is known for its Maori culture. Here we visited a Maori village, learned about their language and rituals, experienced a Te Wero challenge, and watched traditional Maori dances.

Hangi is the traditional Maori feast: meat, potatoes, and vegetables cooked on hot stones underneath the ground. So tonight we dined like the ancient Maori (accept with plates and cutlery, and pavlova for dessert)!
